WILLIAM SEAMAN
(Benz) tet EM. Dor. (Janet Benz X Ruby Laser) This has been one of the most admired and asked about reds for the last 3 years, and we were very pleased when Martha Seaman agreed to name this for her late husband. A full sib to our RUBY LOCKET, and was our favorite from day one. Much larger at 5 1/2"-6", and much, much more ruffled. This is certainly the most heavily ruffled red we have introduced, surpassing even VESUVIAN and RED LIGHTNING in this department. First blooms are nearly 6", an incredibly clear shade of lipstick red, with a vibrant green throat, and I have searched far and wide for a match to outcross with, and thus far, have been unable to acquire anything remotely comparable. Plants are large and vigorous, but branching is only fair, with a bud-count of 22-25. Still, a clump of this frilly beauty in full bloom can take your breath away, and it is easily fertile both ways and as an added bonus WILLIAM SEAMAN has inherited a wonderful heady fragrance from grandparent BARBARA MITCHELL. Those of you who have been breeding and collecting reds for a while know fragrance is almost non-existent in this color. And last, but not least this is proving a wonderful parent, and the kids in 2001-2002 were gorgeous. Used pollen more this summer than ever before, but withheld pods as per fall release. $100.00
