(Benz) tet 28" M. Dor. (Red Lightning X Startle) This rivals WHITE FANG as most admired edged variety in the garden. This 6" bright red with it's 1/4" braided ivory-gold border is one of a kind. Far ,more showy than its famous parent, STARTLE, but a bit narrower yet, thus not used nearly enough. I tried to go narrow with this, and I have gorgeous deep ruby and bright scarlet red variants up to 9" across, and with edges ranging from white shark's teeth to huge gold braids. Jamie Gossard used it more than I and seeing his wide seedlings I wished I had used it a lot more. Oh well, hindsight is always 20-20! Still, I will bloom a huge crop from BRAIDED LIGHTNING next year, so who knows. Plants are large and vigorous; scapes are stiff and strong, with 3 laterals and a terminal cluster, and up to 32 buds. An easy parent both ways, and an indispensable one if you want bright true reds with huge fancy edges. Nothing else even comes close. $200.00
