Midnight Heat
tet 30" M. Dor. (Velvet Thunder X Black Ace) Nearly a true jet-black, and comparable in depth of color and intensity to the best we grow, like AFRICAN DIPLOMAT and CARIBBEAN FRANK LEAGUE. Two important features, however, set MIDNIGHT HEAT apart from its competition. #1: substance- this 51/2" flower is heavier and more sun- resistant than any “black” we grow. No flower this dark has proven totally sunfast here, but MIDNIGHT HEAT is the measuring stick we use to gauge the “blacks.” #2: Dormant! After a winter like the one we just had, the word dormant assumes vastly greater importance than ever before. Of all the really good black tetraploids I grow, only MIDNIGHT HEAT is a true hard-dormant. These velvety black blooms are borne on rather short, but widely- branched scapes, and bud-count is 25. Plants are big and healthy, with arching blue-green foliage, and rapid increase. Fertile both ways; pollen is easier. $100.00 (Benz)
