![]() Silver Salute
tet 26" M. Dor. (Tet. Siloam Virginia Henson X T. Barbara Mitchell) SILVER SALUTE is just what I envisioned when making this cross. I wasn't after any specific color, but only dreamed about the melding of these two induced tetraploids both of which possess incredible perfection of form as well as consistency, producing perfect blooms from start to finish. SILVER SALUTE was the first of over 50 seedlings to bloom from this exceedingly difficult cross, and remains a favorite. Color is a soft cream- pink, with a 1/2" band of deeper rose surrounding a chartreuse-green throat. Round, very heavy, and beautifully ruffled with all the ruffles edged in gold, this very feminine 41/2" bloom is fully open at 2-3 A.M.-a true nocturnal, and stays open and crisp until late evening. Pollen and pis- til open mid-morning, and are never dam- aged by insects, nice. Important-SILVER SALUTE contains none of the “old line” primitive tetraploid genetics as it is a rare seedling from a cross of two modern induced diploids!. Nice scapes, but only 2 laterals and about 25 buds. Blooms are very fragrant and always perfect, and often wider and more ruffled than picture. We have saved about six of these sibs, and while some are fancier, and others better- branched, so far this has been the best parent, producing the spectacular new 6" MARGARET KAISER, among others. Fertile both ways, but more dependable as a pollen-parent. $150.00 (Benz)
