Monarch Butterfly
tet 30" M. Dor. (Always Afternoon X Tet. Betty Benz) We are finally able to release the much-awaited 7" sib to last year's JURASSIC BUTTERFLY. Not quite As wide and ruffled, but far more dramatic, due to its ivory petals and high contrast black-purple eye. Large triangular throat is vibrant lime- green and holds. Plants are medium-large and very tough true semi-evergreen in hab- it, going almost dormant during extremely cold winters, and remaining about 6" above ground with no visible foliage dam- age in a milder season. Scapes are straight and erect; branching is only fair with about 15 buds on top. A great parent, giving huge 7"+ kids with eyes that range from black through nearly blue, and many with exotic multiple patterns. Fertile both ways, and if crossed with a well-branched culti- var, seedlings can have 4-5 way branch- ing, and up to 40 buds! We see occasional re-bloom here, but I suspect this would be a heavy rebloomer down south. (Benz 2001)
