Ruby Locket
tet 30" EM. Dor. (Janet Benz X Ruby Laser) We love this 5" ruby red flower, and feel it is will prove indispensable to anyone breeding red tetraploids. Not our largest, or our most ruffled, or even our best colored red, but contains the greatest concentration of superlative attributes we've seen in any red daylily. First, is the lovely round, sym- metrical form all inlaid with fancy piecrust ruffles and substance that defies wind, sun and rain. More impressive this wide, heavy bloom opens more consistently following really cold nights in the 40's than any other red tetraploid we grow. Color is a smooth, saturated, ruby-red with a small emerald green throat, and 35 or more of these gems are borne on 4-way branched “show-scapes”, blooming progressively, rather than multiflora, allowing for a very long and protracted bloom season. Plants are big and lush, and have that deep, blue- green arching foliage we so admire, and vigor is incredible, allowing for extremely rapid increase. Did I mention that RUBY LOCKET is wonderfully fragrant, having inherited this trait from grandparent, Tet. BARBARA MITCHELL. Most reds have no fragrance whatsoever, and this is the only one I'm aware of to exude this type of heady fragrance. Oh, and she re-blooms -consistently, with equally fine branching, another rarity in a red, even a southern red. Last but not least, is the fertility; an easy pod-parent, and an incredibly potent pollen, setting seed on even the most difficult pod-parents. First kids are exciting, and we will be using this heavily for several years to come. $150.00 (Benz)
