BRIGHT ROSE CANDY

(Benz) tet 30" M. Dor. (Serena Dancer X Tet. Barbara Mitchell) In our quest to produce a bright red version of BARBARA MITCHELL, we crossed Tet. BARBARA to every good red in the garden, from RED GRACE to RUBY DUCHESS. BRIGHT ROSE CANDY was the only seedling in all these crosses to possess this intense brilliant red color. None of the others were even close, and most all ranged from redwood to paper bag tan in color. Even now BRIGHT ROSE CANDY stands alone for color. A luminous screeching deep rose red, with heavy sunfast blooms and nice lacy piecrust ruffles, this 5" beauty has carrying power to spare, and shines across the midseason garden like a beacon. Throat is chartreuse in the morning and fades to yellow in hot sun, also blooms need hot weather to open as flat as I would prefer. Still, this has been one of the most noticed and asked about reds year after year, and we are introducing it due to the many requests from friends and visitors.
