VISION OF GLORY
(Benz) tet 26" M. Dor. (Beyond 2000 X Clothed In Glory) This 5" purple beauty has proven the star performer of our DORMANT line of gold-edged pinks and purples. Blooming on the smallest plant of 18 siblings with a 10" scape with 4 buds, it was presumed a tender evergreen the following spring when it appeared to have disappeared completely. Imagine my surprise when two large DORMANT ramets emerged! I quickly moved this gem into a 5 gallon pot, where it proceeded to bloom on 2 scapes with 3 laterals and a terminal cluster, and a bud-count of 25. Then came a second set of scapes, and then a third, which I snapped off so as to not overly tax a new plant. VISION OF GLORY is flat-open by dawn, and has both the heaviest substance and the most circular form of all edged varieties we grow. A beautiful shade of medium purple with a bluish cast when the weather is right. The glittering 14k gold edge is consistently 1/3" and grows larger and more intense with hot weather, but requires no heat to appear as in the photo. True "hard dormant," and builds a large crown due to winter cold. Outdoes both parents in re-bloom, speed of increase, really in every way. I bloomed the first large crop of its seedlings in 2004, and it improved everything I crossed it with. Many had wonderful branching and re-bloom on first year seedlings, and several selections sported gold edges between 1/2"- 3/4" in diameter. Fertile both ways, and the single most valuable parent I have for breeding gold edges for the North!  $200.00
