![]() PICOTEE VISION
(Benz) tet 26" M. Ev. (Virginia Peck X Picotee Dream) PICOTEE DREAM has proven a great and dynamic parent, producing gorgeous lavenders, pinks and whites, and several excellent picotees, but PICOTEE VISION is the only seedling so far to supercede its contrasting picotee edge. PICOTEE VISION is similar in coloration to parent PICOTEE DREAM, but blooms are larger at close to 6", and color contrast is far more striking. Like parent PICOTEE DREAM, PICOTEE VISION is often suffused with rose coloration during periods of cooler weather, but unlike PICOTEE DREAM, this one even has a deeper contrasting red (not rose) picotee edge clearly visible even then. But when the days grow warmer, PICOTEE VISION really shines, lightening to an extremely contrasting near-white bloom with a bold wire edge in deep rose-red! Unfortunately, PICOTEE VISION was not blessed with the huge plant and magnificent scape of its parent, PICOTEE DREAM. Vigor and increase are fine, but plants are small to medium in size and scapes are only fair to middling, with 2 laterals and about 15 buds. Why would I introduce this with its mediocre plant habit? Because in breeding for many years with for picotees with no eyes, I have come to the conclusion that cultivars that inherit this pattern from LITTLE INFANT genetics are the only reliable breeders for edges with NO eye. The cultivars that have a double edge of rose and gold have not been productive for this climate and most of the famous diploids that have been converted for breeding in this direction have a genetic eyezone. RAINING VIOLETS and its offspring SEAL OF APPROVAL exhibit very pronounced eye patterns in cooler weather, as does even T. WILD ONE. And as with any spotting gene, this eye can be diminished and reduced, but not completely eliminated, especially with the cooler northern nights. PICOTEE VISION is fertile both ways, and is possibly the most important parent seen yet for dark red picotees with absolutely NO eye! SOLD OUT
