RUBY LIPSTICK (Benz) Tet 30" M. Dor. (Monterrey Jack X Tet. Sophia's Lips) Tet. SOPHIA'S LIPS has proven an incredible parent, and I've saved the best for last. RUBY LIPSTICK is a 6" ivory white flower with a bright red banded eye surrounding a large vivid lime-green throat. Takes form and size from parent MONTERREY JACK, but is larger and much more ruffled. Color is reminiscent of granparent Tet. SILOAM GUMDROP, and is much more intensely colored than parent SOPHIA'S LIPS. Petals are 3 1/2" wide and sepals are over 2" in diameter. A wire edge in brightest gold becomes wider and more pronounced as the days heat up; but these thick heavy substanced blooms suffer no damage in hottest sun, and this one is flat open by dawn, regardless of weather. Plants are magnificent, larger and more vigorous than either parent, and RUBY LIPSTICK is blessed with wonderful scapes and branching as well. 3-4 laterals and a widespread terminal cluster display 30 or more of these blooms to perfection. Bloom season is long and extended as RUBY LIPSTICK blooms progessively rather than multiflora. Very consistent and an easy parent both ways. If we had to choose just one "eyed" variety to grow and hybridize with, RUBY LIPSTICK would be that daylily. Coming from 3 modern converted diploids, this jewel is heir to none of the lingering problems that plague old-line tetraploids. Surpasses both parents as a breeder and I can't say enough good things about this daylily. Fragrance and re-bloom are added bonuses. FALL ONLY $200.00
